Charity

United Press is always looking for volunteers to help with its charity work.

The company has set up and is sponsoring a performing roadshow which tours around major shopping centres in the North of England. The roadshow involves singers who entertain the crowds whilst raising money for charity. So far they have raised over £103,000 for Christie's Hospital in Manchester.

Christie's is the biggest cancer hospital in Europe.

"On average we raise over £1,000 at each event," said one of the organisers, Gregory Paul. He is a former patient at Christie's and an employee of United Press. "We have enough singers but we are desperate for more volunteer collectors. For each collector who attends we can raise £50 to £100, so the work is both rewarding and enjoyable. If you can help please contact me on 0870 240 6190."

Gregory has also raised an extra £5,000 for Christie's with sales of his CD Songs For Christie's which features his versions of classics like Delilah, My Way, New York and Music of the Night. If you want to order a copy send £9.99 to: Songs For Christie's, United Press, Admail 3735, London EC1B 1JB. All £9.99 goes direct to Christie's.

Helping Hands At Schools

Several schools are benefiting from the free scheme available at United Press. The company offers a service producing free poetry books featuring the work of school pupils. “Our main aim in offering this service is to encourage young people to be more involved in poetry,” said Lynda Brennan of United Press. “Many schools have taken up the offer recently and we are working on books for them. We ask them to supply poems written by the children at the school and we put them into a book and give the school 50 free copies, which they distribute to the young poets themselves.”

Poets under 16 can also take advantage of the other free book service available from United Press. The company produces anthologies, featuring the work of poets from across the UK. Poets under 16 invited to be included in these anthologies receive one free copy. You can telephone us for details on 0870 240 6190.
