Ian Ward

Profile

I have been writing verse since I left school, but it is only since joining 'The Lichfield Poets' that I have taken my writing more seriously. My tone is very much light and dark - veering more towards the dark and twilight.

I would like to thank my friends at The Lichfield Poets for their acceptance, support and high standards of work which constantly encourages me to 'up my game'.

I am a product of the late 20th century and as such my influences come from the culture of my time. I was once told that a lot of my work was too 'outside the box' for a particular event. I agree that I do aim to write 'outside the box' but it is work very much for performance. I regularly read with The Lichfield Poets at our public events and I also perform my work at local venues in my own right.

What I like in poetry is a story, a message, sound and imagery, my poetry aims to reflect this. What I don't see myself as, is a poetic poet."
