Profile Lucreta La Pierre loves writing poetry and especially likes writing in her native Creole. Born on the island of St. Vincent, Lucreta who has been living in London since childhood, became a poet in 2007. Inspired by a workshop on the slave trade, she crafted her first poem, 'Ancestors'. Lucreta was awarded an MBE in 2004, for her voluntary services in London, which now includes taking poetry and Creole into schools. She is vice-chair of Inspired Word and a member of Torridon Writers. In this collection, 'Meh Landing Frock', readers are invited on her journey from the idyllic scenes of her childhood where her grandmother would shell gunga peas by the side of the road, to her arrival in the UK as part of the Windrush generation of the 50s and 60s, through the emergence of multicultural London, and her return to the land of her birth. The book costs £4.00 and can be purchased directly from the author, who can be contacted via email at evettebabe@yahoo.co.uk or by phone on 07951 241017. |
