"It is in the family, my mother wrote and published poetry. I have inherited a collection of her work.

My own work is influenced by other poets from whom I have learned the art of cadence (where there is a falling sound at the end of a verse or poem.) this I find useful with descriptive or narrative poems.

I am indebted to many people who encourage me in my work. My wife who tidies and corrects, my grandchildren who read aloud my poems.

To all at United Press who encourage me to write and have published many of my poems. The Workers Education Association who encouraged me to write about war and conflict. The writers groups in Huntingdon and the Hemingfords, these are often the first to hear the poems I have written.

My world of words and rhythm has been encouraged by all these people and I hope will be of interest to those who look at this book."
