Profile

"I was born in Leith in 1923.. I wrote my first poem at the age of nine, and now , aged 87, have accumulated a lot of poems. I finished my career as Head Teacher of a school in the West Highlands so most of my poems then were written for children. I have been a widow for many years now. Lots of interests fill my time - gardening, walking, reading, scrabble, crosswords and - until I broke a bone – Line dancing . I also write for a local magazine – garden articles with photographs, cat stories and school stories.

In the last two years I have become involved with United Press and have poems in many of their anthologies – great fun and a lovely hobby. Lately Peter Quinn asked me what inspired me in my poetry writing and I couldn't find an answer for him. After thinking about it I realise that my inspiration is simply the joy of living with all its ups and downs and a need to record events and feelings poetically as they affect me, the people I know and the world around me. Therefore I have called this little book Living and Loving.”

Ruth sold all of her books and donated the proceeds to MacMillan Nurses. You can contact her on 01397 772312.
