How To Get Into Print

Put your work together and look at it. Ask yourself these questions:

How many pages will it cover?

Is it handwritten, typewritten, or on disk?

Do you need professional editing, spell-checking and grammar checking?

How many copies of your book do you want to print?

Do you want a basic cover or something glossy?

How much can you afford to spend?

Do you want to sell it yourself or have it marketed for you?

The prices quoted on this page include typesetting, posting proofs to the client, correcting the returned proofs, posting second proofs to the client and correcting and posting third proofs if necessary. They also include cover design, printing, binding and trimming and postage to the client.

If you decide to produce your own book you are in elevated company.

Stephen King, Mark Twain, Lord Byron, George Bernard Shaw, Beatrix Potter, Jane Austen, Edgar Allen Poe and A.A. Milne were just a few of the writers who began their careers by contributing to their publication costs.

Currently, your chances of finding a publisher are low - and getting worse all the time. Today’s demanding financial market means publishers need sure-fire success. That’s why they prefer TV celebrities or established writers to taking risks on new talent.

With United Press, you can self-publish for as little as £280. Most other publishers charge £4,000 to £9,000 to put you into print.

One other unique thing about United Press is that we can produce a minimum of just 50 copies of a book.

This means you don’t need to commit yourself to having hundreds of copies of your book produced and having to pay for them up front.

As you require more copies of your book, you can order them in units of 50. So you can always meet demand without having to pay for an expensive stockpile of copies.

The total cost depends on how much you want to spend and how long your book is. But it’s best to start small and work your way up, rather than overspend on your first venture.

So be realistic. Don’t aim too high too soon.

For a book of 16 pages plus 4 page high-quality marble cover in one colour, the fee is £280 for 50 copies and £2.50 per additional copy.

This is ideal if you want to test the water with something like a collection of poems to send to friends, the local press, bookshops, agents and publishers, to get your work noticed and appreciated.

Our prices all include typing your work, top quality design, author’s proofs, corrections, repeat author’s proofs, printing, binding, trimming and delivery.

50 copies will cost -

£499 for a book of 32 pages with a one colour cover.

£ 1,500 for a paperback book of 104 pages with a full colour cover.

£ 2,500 for a 168 page hardback.

We can add artwork to enhance your book. Our stock artwork library has 500,000 images, so we should have an illustration to fit every subject and every poem or story.
