them. Many of these magazines will accept submissions from you but
please read about them before you do send any material.

POETRY
CORNWALL
Includes
poetry from around the world including Kernewem and Cornish
dialect. It includes foreign language poetry with English
translations and features a great Cornish poet in each
issue. Also includes a ‘Meet the Editors’ section
with reviews and articles. It is an international magazine
and you can submit up to 3 poems with SAE. See the website

The magazine has run only 4 competitions so far but is
currently reviewing this. It was established in 2002
and usually has 52 pages. 3 issues are published each
year and the magazine is A5 size. Subscriptions are £3.50
per issue or £10 a year and adverts cost £25
per issue. Inserts are free on an exchange basis. The
circulation is 400 and the poetry contact is Les Merton,

review copies of poetry books and novels. They also publish
books.
ENVOI
Envoi
is about encouraging, enabling and giving space to writers,
irrespective of reputation. It includes poetry, sequences,
articles, reviews, letters and comments and also competitions.
Circulation is localised and also spreads internationally.
You can submit articles and poetry, and there are 3 competitions
a year to coincide with each issue. Established in 1957,
it usually has up to 128 pages, charging £15 for
UK subscribers and £20 overseas. Insert rate is £100
per 1000 and the circulation is 1000. Roger Elkin is

PEACE & FREEDOM
Publishes
work which has feeling but is not pretentious. Includes
material such as poetry, prose and artwork, particularly
with a compassionate and humanitarian slant on environmental
and animal welfare issues. Distributed internationally.
Submissions of poetry up to 32 lines and prose up to
500 words are invited. Also black and white artwork up
to 6x4 inches. The magazine runs 2-3 poetry competitions
every year. One is an open poetry competition, and the
others are more specialized. The magazine was established
in 1985 and usually has 32 pages if A5 and 16 if A4.
Issues bi-annually, £10 for 6 issues. Ad rate of £35
for A5 issues and £60 for A4 issues. Insert rate
is £50 and circulation is 400. Would like to receive
review copies of poetry books and novels. Also publish

OUTLAW
Covers
underground, beat, post-beat and jazz poetry. Some space
is given to reviews and prose. Circulation is mainly
UK. Submissions of poetry within the limits of specific
areas covered by the magazine are invited. The magazine
doesn’t tend to run competitions. It began in 2002
and usually has 32 pages with an irregular frequency.
The format is A5 and it costs £7 for 4 circulation
is 100. Editor Bryn Fortey would only like to receive
review copies of poetry books and novels if relevant
areas are covered.
FIRST
TIME
The
philosophy of the magazine is to give openings to first
time published poets and all others. Covers all types
of material and distributes worldwide. Invites up to
six submissions and holds an annual Hastings International
poetry competition. Established in 1981, an issue holds
70 pages, distributed bi-annually. Printed on A5 and

THE
JOURNAL
The
magazine publishes poetry which has given thought to
what it is saying and to how it is being said. It includes
reviews, articles and poetry. Circulation is 100, spread
internationally. There are no limitations to submissions.
Launched in 1994, it has 40 pages and comes is A4 costing £7

The Journal receives no public funds, depends entirely
on sales, subscriptions and donations from well-wishers.
OASIS
Oasis
looks for poetry and prose that is innovative and takes
linguistic and imaginative risks, and wouldn’t
find a home in establishment magazines. It includes poetry,
short prose, graphics and very occasional reviews. It
is mainly circulated in the UK. Work is mainly solicited.
Submissions of poetry and short prose are welcome though
very little reaches the standard requirement. The magazine
was first founded in 1969 and since then has produced
3 issues per year with around 32 pages on A5, £6
for 4 issues and £2.50 for a single copy. Circulation

POETRY
LIFE
Publishing
the best of modern poetry. Circulated around the UK,
it invites submissions of high quality. Runs a poetry
competition entitled ‘Poetry Life’ with a £3000
cash prize. Was established in 1994 printing 3 issues
a year with 50 pages on A4. Charges £19.50, ad
rate per full page of £50 and an insert rate of £50
per 1000. 2000 copies per issue, would like to receive
review copies of poetry books and novels. Also publish

THE
POETRY CHURCH
Christian-based
but often print poems by members of other faiths.
Two thirds of the circulation is the UK with the remainder
in the USA. Only invite submissions from subscribers.
Established in 1985, issued quarterly with 40 pages
on A5, charging £8 per annum. 300 copies per issue.
Occasionally review poetry books and novels and also
publish under Feather Books used by subscribers and
a consortium of writers and composers who publish work

PENNINE
PLATFORM
Established
in 1973, Pennine Platform is a biannual magazine containing
about 60 pages. The 300 circulation is roughly 60% Yorkshire,
with a sprinkling overseas. It includes new poems, reviews
of published poetry books, essays on poets and poetry,
and is always on the lookout for well-made poems which "imitate
the speaking voice" and "speak in the mind's

Poetic Planet is an internet based writers’ group, known as a forum.
The forum focuses around the main poetry board, but also caters for
a selection of smaller boards. These smaller boards include; various
poetry styles, poetry workshop, short stories, young writers’ forum,
poetry discussion and a members’ lounge where writers can chill out.
The forum is of a mild critique with an emphasis for improving,
challenging and inspiring a writers’ ability. We accept writers of
all skill levels and there is no preference on the writers’ style. We
encourage writers’ to help each other with critique and / or suggestions
of a respectful nature. There is no financial outlay as membership is
completely free, so we invite you to join our happy crowd of writers’ and
encourage you to keep your quill sharp.
